We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home
Philip Keith Winkler, 71, passed away unexpectedly on May 14, 2022 while mountain biking with friends in North Carolina. He was born to John and Joan (Ott) Winkler on April 12, 1951. He graduated from Parkway High School in 1969, received his Bachelor of Science from Bowling Green State University and Doctor of Optometry from The Ohio State University. Philip and Ruth (Kreachbaum) were married on June 16, 1979, and have lived in Florida since 1986 where they both practiced optometry.
While in college, Philip continued to operate the family farm after the early death of his father in 1971. He ran a crop-dusting business in partnership with his uncle, Walter Winkler, flying off the grass airstrip behind Walter's house. Philip maintained his love of flying his entire life. He participated in aerobatic competitions, flew personal aircraft, 727s for Eastern Airlines and charter jets in retirement.
Philip's greatest joys came when his son Ian was born in 1995 and Dustin in 1997. He had many treasured relationships with family, friends, employees and patients. He believed that knowledge was a lifelong pursuit. His interests varied from the science of Stephen Hawking, to World War II history, to the complexities of the stock market. Philip enjoyed skiing, hiking, mountain biking and especially financial management. He was truly blessed with a full and rich life.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, children Ian and Dustin, sister Sharon Soliday (H. James Pierce III, M.D.), sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Bill Scott, and cousins Glenda Wampler, Valerie Petit, Deanna Lynn, Karen Schrider Baer and Michelle Shrider Tackett.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, Ohio.
