Jerold Putman

October 9, 1939 — March 27, 2020

Jerry L. Putman, 80, of Rockford, Ohio, passed away Friday night at Lima Memorial Hospital, where he was a patient. He was born October 9, 1939, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Max E. and Myrtle V. "Peggy" (Baumgardner) Putman, both who have preceded in death. Jerry was a graduate of the Class of 1957, Rockford High School in Rockford, Ohio. On May 27, he married Kay McPherson, and she survives at home in Rockford. Jerry had served in the United States Army and was a life-long farmer. He loved his family, fishing with his kids and grandkids, taking the long drive up to Canada to catch some Walleye. He loved sitting on the porch during the warm sunny days and watching his great grandkids play in the yard. He loved being on the tractor and watching the crops mature for harvesting. He lived most of his life in the Rockford area, after he and Kay moved back from Payne, Ohio. Jerry was a member of the Rockford Belle Community Church in Rockford, and enjoyed the time there with his friends.
Together, he and Kay had two children: Kim E. (Dr. Brian) Linder of Richmond, Texas and Chris D. (Rose) Putman of Payne, Ohio. Surviving in addition to his children are 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Two siblings also survive: Terrell Putman of New Knoxville, Ohio, and Gary A. (Jill) Putman of Van Wert, Ohio. Deceased in addition to his parents is one brother, Larry D. Putman.
Because of national health concerns, Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home and the Putman family are following directives outlined by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, limiting attendance to the visitation and funeral service to immediate family only. Please reach out to us and we will share your sympathies with Jerry's family. As always, you are also able to express condolences online at www.ketchamripley.com. A larger celebration of Jerry's life, open to all, will be held at a later date. We will provide details of that celebration as soon as they are available. A video of Jerry's service will also be available on our website, on Thursday, April 2. Burial for Jerry will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Memorials may be directed to the Rockford Belle Community Church, Rockford, Ohio.
