David E. Myers Sr. of Van Wert, OH passed away July 7th, 2020.
David was born on October 6th, 1943 in Van Wert, OH. On April 26th, 1966 he was united in marriage with Rosewitha (Winters) Myers.
David was an exceptional husband and father. He loved his grandchildren deeply; spending time with them brought him much joy.
David was a proud patriot, who was honored and proud to serve his country in the Navy. He worked for many years as a Corrections officer with ACI. David also served as a Sheriff's Deputy in Van Wert County, and Chief of Police in Ohio City. He was also an entrepreneur, creating successful businesses all on his own.
David loved German shepherds and enjoyed spending time with his dogs. He was a big NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching races. He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a member of DAV, Navy Club USA 726, the American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. David was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, OH.
David is survived by his wife, Rosewitha; his sons, Jearld D. Myers, Kenneth E. (Barbara) Myers, Robert J. Myers, Edward K. (Tonia) Myers, David E. (Pepper) Myers JR; his grandchildren, Kenneth (Maggie) Myers, Kayla Waldron, Lucas C. (Kristen) Myers, Britany McMichael, Anthony M. Myers, Kirstie (Chase) Gross, Edward T. Myers, Samuel C. (Abbygayle) Myers, Adriana Myers, Levi Myers, Ellie Rose Myers, as well as 12 great grandchildren.
David is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth E. Myers and J. Eleanore (Hattery).
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, 722 S. Washington Street, Van Wert. A rosary service will take place at 7:30PM on July 10, 2020. A mass of christian burial will be held at 10 AM at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church on July 11, 2020 with internment and Military Rites performed by the combined units of the VFW and the American Legion to follow at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert OH.
Although family and friends are invited to attend David's visitation, we continue to be cautious and concerned for those who are most vulnerable, the elderly and those with serious health issues. We strongly urge everyone to remain vigilant and respect the well-being of the members of David's family and friends who are at risk. Attendees are asked to observe social distancing, refrain from close physical contact, and wear facial coverings as able.
