Alicia Alvarez

Alicia G. (Gonzalez) Alvarez, 79, of Van Wert passed away at 7:35 PM on January 26, 2020 at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

Born on September 05, 1940 in Soto La Marina, Tamaulipas, Mexico, the daughter of the late Jesus Vela and Nicholasa (Rodriguez) Gonzalez. She married Saul Alvarez and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2010.

In 2003, Alicia retired from Kennedy Manufacturing in Van Wert.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Van Wert.

Alicia came to the United States, from Mexico, along with her family- as did Saul, as young adults. Saul and Alicia were united in marriage on August 13, 1961 in West Virginia. Alicia and Saul, and his family, and their two eldest sons came to the Van Wert area where they had two more sons. In October of 1983, Alicia and Saul both became citizens of the United States. They made a good life for themselves and their sons. Alicia's sons were her world, and was on top of the world with the birth of each of her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.

Surviving are three sons, Armando (Diane) Alvarez of Van Wert, Daniel Alvarez of Van Wert, and Saul (Lori) Alvarez, Jr. of Lugoff, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Nic (Allyssa) Alvarez, Jordan Alvarez, Logan Alvarez, Adam Alvarez, Meghan (Seth) Baer, Abbi Alvarez, Sierra Alvarez, Sergio Alvarez and Adessa Alvarez; five great grandchildren; five brothers, Guadalupe Gonzalez, Heriberto Gonzalez, Nicolas Gonzalez, Jose Luis Gonzalez and Manuel Gonzalez; and one sister, Maria I. Leija.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Roberto Alvarez; and a brother, Jesse Gonzalez.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the funeral home, with Rev. David Ray, officiating.

Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alicia`s memory may be sent to Community Health Professionals- Hospice.
