Marcile J. Pennell, 94, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and quiet compassion. Born on January 11, 1932, in Ohio City, Ohio, Marcile was the cherished daughter of Lawrence Conrad and Edith Rebecca (McClure) Kreischer.
On February 10, 1950, she married the love of her life, John "Jack" D. Pennell, and together they built a home rooted in devotion, hard work, and family. Their partnership spanned more than four decades until John's passing in 1993. After raising their children and nurturing a life full of love, Marcile and John ventured west to Colorado, where she spent 45 meaningful years before returning to her Ohio roots.
Marcile lived with a generous heart and a steadfast commitment to her community. As an active member of the United Church of Idaho Springs, she found joy in the Lady's Aid, helping craft quilts for homeless and needy babies. Her hands were always busy, her spirit always giving.
Her working years were as varied as they were vibrant-owning a grocery store, working in a pharmacy and a gas station, and even waiting tables. No matter the job, Marcile approached each day with a smile and a sense of purpose. A true hometown girl at heart, she proudly supported local teams wherever life took her. It is a tender memory that her final evening was spent cheering on the Buckeyes, her enthusiasm unwavering until the end.
Selfless by nature, Marcile rarely asked for anything for herself. She poured her love into her family, sewing clothing for her children with skill and care. She was an avid reader, and when her eyesight dimmed, she embraced audiobooks to continue her adventures. She found peace outdoors-especially during long walks along the stream near her Colorado home-often staying outside from breakfast until dusk, soaking in the beauty around her.
Marcile is survived by her loving children: Terry (Nancy) Pennell, Scott (Sandy) Pennell, Linda (Tom) Ream, Brenda (John) Schrecengost, and Debra Hayson; her brother Ronnie (Linda) Kreischer; and her sister Audrey (Bill) Campbell as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Pennell; her parents Lawrence and Edith Kreischer; her son David Pennell; and her daughter Angela Morgan.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 9, 2026 at Gearhart‑Sauer Funeral Home, 655 N. Main Street, Convoy, OH with Pastor Steve Drake officiating. Interment in Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery will be private.
