Joseph Newland

ROCKFORD, Ohio - Joseph G. Newland, 83, of Rockford, died at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Olive Fay (Tracy) Newland and Raymond G. Newland.
His wife, Mary L. (Wiedeman) Newland, survives in Rockford. They were married Sept. 2, 1948.
Other survivors include children: Robert Newland of Rockford and Jenny Newland of Van Wert; sisters: Phyllis Patrick of Edgerton, Ohio, and Jeanette Rond of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren: Becky Worline, Amy Jo Newland, Branden Newland, Brian Cress and Jeff Cress, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Archie and Jim Newland, a half brother: Charles McDonald, and a half sister: Eileen Cox.
He was retired from Sonoco Corp., Van Wert, after 41 A½ years.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
