Helen M. Henkle, 92, of Rockford, Ohio, died thursday afternoon at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford, where she was a patient. She was born November 28,1918, in Mercer County, Ohio, to Grover and Lavina (Karch) burris. On December 25, 1938, she married Thorsen L. Henkle, and he preceded on November 12, 2008. She had been the head cook at Parkway Local Schools for many years, and then went on to work at Tu-Way Mop Factory in Rockford, where she retired. She lived in the area all her life, and was active in many organizations: she was a member of the Rockford United Methodist church, a member of the Rockford Eastern Stars, and a past Worthy Matron there;she was also the Past President of the Rockford American Legion Auxillary, Post #508; a leader at Buckeye Girls State for many years; an avid bowler and league member in Van Wert, Ohio, and she was also a member of the Van Wert Civic Theater, where she acted in their plays. Surviving are three children: Michael (Linda) Henkle, Connie Marbaugh, and Linda Hart, all of Rockford. A daughter-in-law, Kathy Henkle, also resides in Rockford. Eleven grandchildren survive: Brett (Denise) and Jeff Marbaugh, Robin Protsman, Tracy (Rob) Rutledge, Steve Jr. (Sherry) Henkle; Sherri Henkle, Lori (Scott) Schoenleben, Brady Henkle, Stacey (Terra) Henkle, Kelly Smithers, and Danielle (Terill) Castor; fifteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Deceased are one son, Steve Henkle, one great grandchild, one great-great grandchild, and three sisters: Ruth McClleand, Mary Stahl, and Dorothy Pifer. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Chip Steffy officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
