Gene Hoaglin

VAN WERT, Ohio - Gene E. Hoaglin, 88, of Van Wert, died Monday morning, Dec. 20, 2010, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
He was born April 11, 1922, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Kittie (Kear) Hoaglin and Holley E. Hoaglin. His wife, Wanda J. (Humerickhouse) Boyd Hoaglin, died in 1991.
Survivors include his children: Mark Hoaglin of Van Wert, Sharon (Larry) Boyd Harris of Scott, Ohio, grandchildren: Tamali (Chris) Pruden of Scott and Lorali (Michael) Todd of Van Wert, and great-grandchildren: Ashley (Matt) Ricker, Ryan Todd, Devin Pruden and Andrew Todd.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Darrel and Loyal Hoaglin, and sisters: Ruth Quillen, Eileen Gusler, Virginia Williams, Reva Severs and Margaret Hoaglin.
He was owner/operator of the former Scott Grocery Store, Scott, and then retired from the Aeroquip Corp. in Van Wert after 23 years. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Van Wert. He served for four years in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and was a 65-year member of the Van Wert American Legion.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Jay Nesselroad will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Military graveside services will be conducted by Van Wert American Legion and VFW Posts.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Wesley United Methodist Church.
