Syracuse

Evelyn Sue Kerns, Syracuse, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 25 at the Goshen Memorial Hospital, Goshen, Indiana. Born April 10, 1948, in Yerkes, a small community near Hazard, Kentucky, Evelyn was a daughter of the late James and Ezella Bailey McIntosh. In 1955 the family relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana and then to Convoy, Ohio. Evelyn graduated from Crestview High School in 1966.

In 1974, Evelyn joined the work force at the Dana Corporation and took an early retirement in 2002. Following retirement, the New Market IGA in Syracuse welcomed her to their staff. Working part-time at the IGA suited her as the location was just across the street from her home.

Evelyn Sue was an eternal optimist with a great sense of humor. She had a can-do spirit. When adversity came to call, she met it with grace and poise and always remained positive. She was an emotionally strong woman while simultaneously being a wonderful caretaker for those around her. She looked to lift up others and enjoyed making people laugh. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend. Loyal, empathetic and forgiving, Evelyn had an innate ability to see things from the other person's perspective and to recognize their needs. Everyone loved her. She will be missed by family, friends and many others whose lives she touched. Evelyn will live in our hearts forever.

On November 4, 2020, Evelyn was diagnosed with COVID-19. She was admitted to the Goshen Hospital ICU November 16. November 25, 2020 she lost her battle with COVID-19.

In keeping with her wishes, Evelyn will be cremated and her remains interred at the IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, Ohio. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and in the interest of safety of her
loved ones, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date in 2021.
