Elaine Sherburn

Elaine A. Sherburn, 87, of Van Wert, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Van Wert Manor while surrounded by her family. She was born on April 06, 1935, in Van Wert, to the late Russell Dwight and Esther Irene (Sherrick) Gamble.

Elaine owned and operated Sherburn Construction Company with her late husband, Lowell E. Sherburn. She was a former member of Pleasant Chapel Church.

Many would be shocked to know that Elaine was a certified scuba diver and dove with the sharks in the Caribbean. Or that she used to travel the county as a professional go-cart racer with Lowell as her crew chief. Her other, more traditional hobbies included gardening and growing tomatoes, cruising the town, making her daily stop for coffee at McDonald's, and caring for and training her dogs that she loved so much.

She is survived by her sons, Gregg (Jackie) Sherburn of Van Wert; Michael (Heather) Sherburn of Convoy; as well as many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; sisters: Esther Black, Donna Swanson; and brothers: Don Gamble and John Gamble.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with Rev. Stuart Wyatt officiating.

There will be no prior visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elaine`s memory may be sent to the family for medical expenses care of the funeral home.
