Patricia Shaffer

Patricia A. (Matelli) Shaffer, 84, of Van Wert, Ohio passed away at 3:49 AM Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Vancrest Nursing Home in Van Wert, Ohio.  She was born March 6, 1933 in San Francisco, California to the late George A. and Mildred (Shehan) Matelli.  On February 4, 1956 she married Charles C. Shaffer and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1995.

Patricia is survived by a son, Neil (Teresa) Shaffer of Van Wert; two daughters, Pam Kline of Van Wert and Sheila Shaffer of Rockford, Ohio; brothers, John J. (Ruth) Matelli and Raymond F. (Lucy) Matelli all of California; grandchildren, Danielle Kline, Heather (Matt) McGraw, Luke (Mandi) Shaffer, Logan (Autumn May) Shaffer, Connor Shaffer, Jared Shaffer, Sierra Shaffer, Kaden Shaffer and Ashlynn Shaffer; and 9 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shaffer was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and Women of the Moose, all of Van Wert, Ohio.  She enjoyed camping at Huggy Bear Campground, listening to Blue Grass music and entertaining annual Christmas Eve open houses.

In addition to her parents and husband, Patricia was preceded in death by one grandson, Corbin Shaffer; a son in law, Dan Kline; and a brother, Edward Matelli.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 25, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Van Wert, Ohio with Rev. Gus Christo-Baker officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory.  Also, one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Van Wert, Ohio.
