Myron "Mike" E. Cashel

October 14, 1932 ~ December 2, 2018 (age 86)

Myron “Mike” E. Cashel, 86, of Van Wert died at 12:40 AM, Sunday, December 02, 2018 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.  He was born October 14, 1932 in Van Wert County to the late Russell and Wilma (Rogers) Cashel.  On April 14, 1957 he married June Clutter and she survives of Van Wert.

Mike retired from the maintenance department at Thomas Edison School after 24 years of service.  He was a Korean War veteran of the United States Navy.  He served two years each on both the U.S.S. Iowa and U.S.S. Columbus.  Mike had also attended reunions for both ships.  He was a former President and trustee of the Ohio Polka Boosters from 1986-1987 and had also served as President of the Rogers Family Reunion.  Mike enjoyed landscaping and working around the house.  He had also been invited to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball organization.  He was a lifetime member of the Grover Hill V.F.W. Post and Van Wert American Legion Post.

Mike is also survived by two children, Vicki (Steven) Chavarria of Van Wert and Rick (Lisa) Cashel of Convoy, Ohio; and a sister, Marcia Cashel of Cambridge, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a son, Brad Cashel; and two brothers, Roger and Dennis Cashel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Jody Harr officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, Ohio, with military graveside services being conducted by the Van Wert American Legion and V.F.W. and attended First United Brethren Church in Van Wert. 

Visitation will be 3-8 PM on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. 

Preferred memorials may be directed to the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
