James Summersett

October 31, 1924 — February 28, 2019

James “Warren” Summersett, 94, of Van Wert, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice.  He was born October 31, 1924, in Van Wert County, to the late Clifford Summersett and Hazel (Pollock) Summersett.

Warren was a Polar Bear, having graduated from Middle Point High School in 1942. He married the love of his life, Nelia Snyder, on October 28, 1945 before serving in the United States Army during World War II.

A lifelong farmer, Warren also worked for Aeroquip from which he retired. He was a former member of Middle Point Presbyterian Church and a current member of Salem Presbyterian Church in Venedocia.  He was also a member of the Van Wert American Legion. Warren enjoyed sports and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and a diehard Lincolnview Lancer supporter.

He is survived by his five children: Herb (Shirley) Summersett of Cygnet; Phil (Corinna) Summersett of Tucson, AZ; Joyce (Alan) Morris of Van Wert; Janis (Brian) Adam of Ft. Jennings; Jean (Carl) Etzler of Ohio City; daughter-in-law, Judy (Gary) Painter of Fort Wayne; sisters: Esther Ley and Leah Ries, both of Van Wert; 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Nelia in 2008,  son, Dennis Summersett and grandson, Thad Summersett.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Thomas Emery officiating. Interment will follow in Ridge Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday, March 4, 2019 at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Salem Presbyterian Church or CHP Home Care and Hospice.
